Service learning projects create valuable learning opportunities, but only when students are properly prepared.
Below is an example of a real safety briefing delivered by one of our facilitators before students began digging foundation holes for solar light poles.

1. (Xinchao) Hello everyone. Before we start, I have a few questions for you:
-To dig the holes, what tools do we need?
-Who hasn’t used these tools before?
-What could happen if we swing or use tools carelessly around other people?
-Why do you think returning tools after using them is important?
(Wait for responses)
